Contaminated Land Assessment & Remediation Services

Auckland | Hamilton | Nelson | New Plymouth

HD Geo's contaminated land team provides investigation, assessment and remediation services across Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki and New Zealand-wide.

Our team includes Suitably Qualified and Experienced Practitioners (SQEPs) who certify reports under the National Environmental Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health (NESCS). All our reports satisfy Auckland Council, Waikato Regional Council and Taranaki Regional Council consent requirements.

We provide clear, direct advice. We tell you what you need, why you need it, and the most practical way to get there.

Our Contaminated Land Service Includes:

Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI): We conduct desktop PSIs to check whether your site has HAIL (Hazardous Activities and Industries List) history and whether contamination investigation is required. All PSI reports are SQEP-certified under the NESCS.

Detailed Site Investigation (DSI): Where contamination is suspected, we carry out soil sampling, groundwater investigation and laboratory analysis. DSI reports confirm contamination levels and assess suitability for your proposed land use.

HAIL Assessment & Land Use Change: Subdividing land, changing land use or disturbing soil on a HAIL site? You'll need a contamination assessment. We guide you through the process efficiently.

Quantitative Risk Assessment: We carry out Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments (SSRA) to evaluate actual risk and determine whether remediation is required.

Remediation Design & Management: We design and oversee remediation works, including excavation, in-situ treatment and land use controls. We prepare validation reports on completion.

PFAS & Emerging Contaminants: We assess sites affected by PFAS and other emerging contaminants, aligned with current MfE guidance.

Due Diligence Assessments: Fast-turnaround desktop contamination assessments for property purchases, sales and development decisions.

Under the NESCS, all PSI and DSI reports must be certified by a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Practitioner (SQEP). HD Geo's contaminated land reports are SQEP-certified, giving councils and landowners confidence in the quality and regulatory compliance of our work.
